Second Stage Round 8: Amager - Vaerlose 99-91

BasketLigaen round 8 caused change at the leadership position. Fourteenth defeat of league's leader Vaerlose (9-14) against fourth ranked Amager (3-20) 99-91 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Vaerlose. Amager made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Vaerlose 62-36 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Amager made 12 blocks. 27 personal fouls committed by Vaerlose helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The other American import guard Mitch Pelissier (190-1997, college: Concordia, IL) contributed with 28 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. Pelissier is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Adam Heede-Andersen (187-1996, college: St.Cloud St.) replied with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Mikkel Hauge (193-1999, college: Seattle) added 16 points in the effort for Vaerlose. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Amager maintains fourth position with 3-20 record. Vaerlose at the other side still keeps top place with 14 games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Bakken who have the same record. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
