Important game to mention about took place in Izmir. Fifth ranked Pinar Karsiyaka (17-9) saved a 1-point derby victory at home edging 7th ranked Tofas (15-12) 79-78 on Saturday evening. Pinar Karsiyaka made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Tofas outrebounded Pinar Karsiyaka 44-27 including a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Point guard Tony Taylor (184-1990, college: GWU) saved the victory by scoring 17 points and 6 assists. Senegalese-French Amath MBaye (205-1989, college: Oklahoma) contributed with 13 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Pinar Karsiyaka's coach Ufuk Sarica allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American center Jeremy Simmons (204-1989, college: Charleston) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and Mexican Francisco Cruz (191-1989, college: Wyoming) added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Tofas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pinar Karsiyaka maintains fifth place with 17-9 record. Tofas at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. Pinar Karsiyaka will play against Turk Telekom (#11) in Ankara in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Tofas will play at home against the league's leader Fenerbahce (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
