Regular Season Round 31: Voluntari - Steaua B. 75-76

The most exciting game of round 31 in the Liga Nationala took place in Voluntari. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of much higher ranked Voluntari (22-5) to eleventh ranked Steaua B. (12-16) 76-75 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-13. But Voluntari won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Voluntari outrebounded Steaua B. 45-33 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard KJ Jackson (188-1998, college: UMBC, agency: Players Group) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Serbian Nikola Cvetinovic (203-1988, college: Akron) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (188-1989) produced 20 points and 6 assists and American center Eric Thompson (204-1993, college: Pacific) added 10 points and 15 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Steaua B. moved-up to tenth place. Voluntari at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Steaua B.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti Dinamo B..
