Very expected game when 13th ranked Merkezefendi (8-20) lost to second ranked Efes (22-6) in Denizl 65-80 on Wednesday. Efes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. International point guard Ahmet Tuncer (193-1993) notched 24 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and Serbian center Filip Petrusev (211-2000, college: Gonzaga, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Efes' coach Ergin Ataman used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by American center Devonte Upson (206-1993, college: SE Louisiana) did not help to save the game for Merkezefendi. Latvian Rihards Lomazs (190-1996) added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Merkezefendi players scored in double figures. Efes have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Fenerbahce. Merkezefendi lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with 20 games lost. Efes will meet Gaziantep (#4) on the road in the next round. Merkezefendi will play against Socar Petkim (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
