The game between closely ranked teams ended with Vitoria SC's (9-16) home victory over Illiabum (6-19) in Guimaraes 94-83 on Wednesday. Vitoria SC dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Illiabum's 28. They outrebounded Illiabum 43-31 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Malcolm Drumwright (188-1995, college: JSU, agency: DC Sports) who led the winners and scored 22 points. Australian Matthew McCarthy (205-1996, college: USF) accounted for 13 points and 13 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Vitoria SC's coach Carlos Fechas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Lamar Morgan (201-1997, college: Coppin St.) came up with 24 points and the other American import guard Montell Goodwin (188-1995, college: EIU) added 11 points, 10 assists and 4 steals respectively for Illiabum in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vitoria SC will meet Ovarense (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Illiabum will play against Academica in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
