Regular Season Round 20: Targu Mures - Stiinta 107-72

Round in Liga I means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Targu Mures where host Targu Mures (19-1) crushed league's leader Stiinta (19-1) 107-72 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the 19-game winning streak of Stiinta. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Targu Mures led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Targu Mures outrebounded Stiinta 51-31 including a 40-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Targu Mures looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-1987) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 assists. Forward Ioan Borsa (201-1990) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Targu Mures players scored in double figures. American point guard Armin Cane (188-1993, college: Stockton) produced 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Jordan Taylor (198-1998, college: Stockton) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Targu Mures have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Stiinta. Just two games before the end of Regular Season and it may be the most important game of the season next round when Stiinta faces Agronomia trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Targu Mures will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Cluj CSU in Cluj Napoca.
