Regular Season Round 2: CAB Madeira - Ovarense 77-80

A very close game took place in Funchal between Ovarense and CAB Madeira. Ovarense got a very close victory on the road over CAB Madeira. Ovarense managed to escape with a 3-point win 80-77 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Ovarense made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Ovarense outrebounded CAB Madeira 39-21 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Brandon Peel (201-1994, college: CCSU) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import forward Jacoby Armstrong (201-1995, college: UNH) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Ovarense's coach Joao Tiago used entire bench in such tough game. Forward Nuno Sa (200-1997) produced 24 points and 4 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and American guard Matt Johnson (193, college: Detroit) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ovarense will meet at home Vitoria SC in the next round where they are favorite. CAB Madeira will play against Sangalhos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
