Regular Season Round 4: Gargzdu - Siauliai 76-78

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Siauliai (2-2) edged bottom-ranked Gargzdu (0-4) in Gargzdai 78-76 on Friday. Siauliai looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by the former international point guard Donatas Sabeckis (197-1992) who scored that evening 15 points and 9 assists and swingman Martynas Varnas (196-1997) supported him with 13 points and 6 assists. Siauliai's coach Antanas Sireika used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 10 points and 9 assists by American point guard Josh Newkirk (185-1994, college: Indiana) did not help to save the game for Gargzdu. Giedrius Staniulis (206-1991) added 13 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Four Siauliai and five Gargzdu players scored in double figures. Siauliai moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Nevezis and P.Zvaigzdes. Newly promoted Gargzdu still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Neptunas and Prienai CBet. Siauliai will meet Nevezis (#6) in the next round. Gargzdu will play against the league's second-placed Zalgiris (#2) in Kaunas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
