Very expected game when bottom-ranked Sangalhos (0-4) were crushed at home by leader Benfica (3-0) 99-65 on Saturday. Benfica shot 60.3 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Cape Verdean Ivan Almeida (198-1989, college: Stonehill) who scored 21 points. Tunisian Makram Ben Romdhane (205-1989) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Five Benfica players scored in double figures. Coach Norberto Alves's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Canadian guard Nikita Kasongo (193-1996, college: St.Mary's) produced 16 points and American forward Eddie Hunt (201-1996, college: Limestone, agency: Wasserman) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Benfica have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Sporting. Newly promoted Sangalhos still closes the standings with four games lost. Benfica will meet at home league's leader Ovarense in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sangalhos will play against Imortal (#9) in Albufeira and hope to get finally their first victory.
