Craiova 2 won a double-overtime thriller edging Ploiesti CSU by two points 86-84. The game took place in Ploiesti. But the guests from Craiova were better at the end. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ploiesti CSU won fourth quarter 19-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Ploiesti CSU used huge pressure winning it 19-11 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually double-overtime period 11-8. Craiova 2 forced 22 Ploiesti CSU turnovers and outrebounded them 59-41 including a 41-30 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ploiesti CSU was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. Robert Licurici (188-2003, agency: BIG) nailed 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winning side and forward Iulian Corneanu (197-1989) accounted for 10 points and 22 rebounds. Five Craiova 2 players scored in double figures. Alexandru Chirila came up with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals and forward Alin Carabulea (-1995) added 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals respectively for Ploiesti CSU in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Craiova 2 will play against Agronomia in Bucuresti in the next round. Ploiesti CSU will play at home against Laguna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
