There was no surprise in Kaunas where 12th ranked Mazeikiai (1-4) was defeated by leader Zalgiris II (5-0) 85-73 on Thursday. Zalgiris II outrebounded Mazeikiai 39-21 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Emilis Bartninkas (202-2004) stepped up and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and center Motiejus Krivas (214-2004) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach Vytautas Pliauga allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international swingman Arturas Jomantas (200-1985) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian point guard Edi Sinadinovic (190-1988) scored 6 points and 7 assists. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Zalgiris II. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Telsiai. Mazeikiai lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth place with four games lost. They share the position with Rytas 2. Zalgiris II will meet Stekas (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mazeikiai will play against Vytis (#4) and hope to win that game.
