Regular Season Round 4: Wels - St.Poelten 87-61
Date: October 22, 2022
The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Raiffeisen Flyers Wels' (3-1) home victory over 6th ranked UBC St. Poelten (1-3) 87-61 on Saturday. The game without a history. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to UBC St. Poelten's 26. The winners were led by American-Nigerian guard Austen Awosika (190-1998, college: CS Fullerton, agency: Slash Sports) who scored that evening 36 points (!!!) and Lithuanian forward Arvydas Gydra (206-1989) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels' coach Sebastian Waser felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 8 points and 13 rebounds by American forward Chris Ferguson (206-1989, college: Mid-Continent) did not help to save the game for UBC St. Poelten. His fellow American import guard Mike Holton Jr (186-1990, college: St.Michael's) added 10 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels moved-up to third place, which they share with Oberwart and Vienna. UBC St. Poelten at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels will meet BC Vienna (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. UBC St. Poelten will play against Furstenfeld Panthers (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
