Regular Season Round 2: Vasco - Academica 89-81

Vasco used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Coimbra 89-81 on Saturday night. Vasco forced 21 Academica turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center Jaja Davis (196, college: Montreat) notched 24 points to lead the effort and point guard Filipe Ferreira (180-1996) supported him with 23 points and 5 assists. Even 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals by American point guard Damek Mitchell (175-1998, college: LC State) did not help to save the game for Academica. His fellow American import forward Xavier Francois (198-1995, college: CS Stanislaus) added 15 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Academica's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Vasco will meet Galomar in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Academica will play against Illiabum and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the Liga Betclic just one year after relegation.
