Date: October 22, 2022
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Sibiu (3-1) on the court of top-ranked Cluj Napoca on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by Cluj Napoca 112-88. It was a key game for the top position in Nationala. The game without a history. Cluj Napoca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Cluj Napoca outrebounded Sibiu 39-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Sibiu's players. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Emanuel Cate (207-1997) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Patrick Richard (193-1990, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) who added 14 points and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side Argentinian point guard Gaston Whelan (187-1994) responded with 16 points and 6 assists and American center Dallas Walton (213-1998, college: Wake Forest, agency: Players Group) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position in Nationala with 4-0 record. Sibiu at the other side keeps the third place with one game lost. Cluj Napoca are looking forward to face Ploiesti CSM (#5) on the road in the next round. Sibiu will play against Pitesti and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
