There was no surprise in Bonn where 8th ranked BG Goettingen (2-2) was defeated by leader Telekom Baskets (4-0) 94-85 on Saturday. Telekom Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Jeremy Morgan (196-1995, college: UNI) stepped up and scored 23 points for the winners and his fellow American import Collin Malcolm (200-1997, college: WPU) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Norwegian point guard Harald Frey (188-1997, college: Montana St.) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American Mark Smith (193-1999, college: Kansas St.) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Telekom Baskets and four BG Goettingen players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Telekom Baskets. They moved-up to second place. Loser BG Goettingen keeps the eighth position with two games lost. They share it with Heidelberg. Telekom Baskets will meet at home MLP Academics Heidelberg (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BG Goettingen will play against s Oliver Baskets and hope to secure a win.
