Regular Season Round 5: Mustangs - Blackbirds 58-66

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Mustangs (4-1) in Mistelbach. Hosts were defeated by Blackbirds (5-0) 66-58. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Mustangs. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mustangs won third quarter 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mustangs were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Christoph Astl (185-1988) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Hungarian guard Mate Horvath (182-2003) chipped in 22 points. Czech center Michal Norwa (198-1983) responded with 4 points and 12 rebounds and Czech guard Jan Kozina (182-1995) scored 13 points and 4 steals. Mustangs' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Blackbirds have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Mustangs at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with BBU Salzburg and Raiders. Blackbirds will play against United (#7) in Vienna in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mustangs will play on the road against Rocks (#13) in Mattersburg and hope to get back on the winning track.
