Regular Season Round 8: Prienai - Gargzdu 68-95

Gargzdu has finally registered their first victory this season after seven consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Prienai, where they outplayed Prienai CBet (0-8) 95-68. Gargzdu dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Prienai CBet's 24. They outrebounded Prienai CBet 43-28 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gargzdu players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Prienai CBet's players. The winners were led by Giedrius Staniulis (206-1991) who scored that evening 21 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Josh Newkirk (185-1994, college: Indiana) supported him with 15 points and 6 assists. Four Gargzdu players scored in double figures. Even 11 points and 6 rebounds by guard Karolis Giedraitis (194-1998) did not help to save the game for Prienai CBet. Klaidas Metrikis (204-2000) added 12 points for the hosts. Newly promoted Gargzdu maintains eleventh position with 1-7 record. It was Prienai CBet's eighth loss in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Gargzdu will play against higher ranked Rytas (#4) in Vilnius in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Prienai CBet will play on the road against Wolves (#5) in Vilnius and hopes to get finally their first victory.
