Regular Season Round 7: Arad - Rapid 67-61

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Arad. Leader Arad faced 3rd placed Rapid. Host Arad (5-0) defeated guests from Bucuresti (3-2) 67-61. It looked good early as Rapid took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Arad had a 18-11 second period charge getting the lead and Rapid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-67. They outrebounded Rapid 40-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Cypriot guard Veatriki Akathiotou (166-1995) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Trinity Baptiste (183-1998, college: Arizona) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international Gabriela Irimia (183-1990) answered with 15 points and Lithuanian swingman Marina Solopova (180-1990) added 9 points and 5 assists in the effort for Rapid. Rapid's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Arad. They maintain second place with 5-0 record behind leader Sf.Gheorghe. Rapid at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Brasov. Arad will play against Alexandria (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rapid will play against Brasov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
