Regular Season Round 7: Koeln - Schwelm 81-96

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Schwelm (3-4) beat higher ranked RheinStars (3-4) in Koeln 96-81 on Saturday. Schwelm looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by RheinStars' players. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Brett Reed (204-1996, college: St.Martin's) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field). Norwegian point guard Johan Flaa (185-1999, college: Santa Rosa JC) accounted for 22 points for the winning side. Four Schwelm players scored in double figures. Canadian point guard Ali Sow (185-1998, college: Laurier) came up with 40 points (!!!) (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) and Jannis Von Seckendorff (204-2002) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for RheinStars in the defeat. Schwelm moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Koeln. Schwelm will meet at home higher ranked Wolmirstedt (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. RheinStars will play against Giessen Pointers and hope to secure a win.
