Regular Season Round 7: Zalgiris - VKKM 74-80

Very expected game in Kaunas where 7th ranked Zalgiris I (4-4) was defeated by third ranked VKKM (6-1) 80-74 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Zalgiris I won second period 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. VKKM looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Zalgiris I's players. It was a great evening for guard Kristupas Lesciauskas (190-2005) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Kristupas Grybas (-2006) helped adding 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four VKKM players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Mantas Kocanas (207-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 23 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Kristupas Kepezinskas (177-2005) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. VKKM have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with VKM. Loser Zalgiris I keeps the seventh place with four games lost. VKKM will meet at home Panevezio (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zalgiris I will play against Saule in Siauliai and hope to secure a win.
