Regular Season Round 8: Schwenningen - Leverkusen 84-67
Date: November 20, 2022
Schwenningen's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after seven consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Leverkusen (2-6) 84-67 on Sunday. Schwenningen dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Leverkusen's 28 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Leverkusen 45-30 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Jacob Knauf (210-1997) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American Delante Jones (194-1995, college: Seattle) supported him with 22 points. Four Schwenningen players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds by Canadian swingman Abdul Mohamed (201-1995, college: Montana St.) did not help to save the game for Leverkusen. American point guard Xavier Bishop (173-1997, college: Montana St.) added 16 points for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Schwenningen maintains eighteenth position with 1-7 record. Loser Leverkusen dropped to the fourteenth place with six games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Schwenningen will meet higher ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#17) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leverkusen will play against Kirchheim Knights and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
