Regular Season Round 8: Timberwolves - Gmunden 79-78
Date: November 26, 2022
Bottom-ranked Timberwolves managed to get a second victory, breaking the six-game losing streak. This time they edged fourth-ranked Gmunden Swans in Vienna 79-78. Gmunden Swans were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Timberwolves made 20-of-23 charity shots (87.0 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American center Chris Vogt (213-1999, college: Wisconsin) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and the former international forward Jakob Lohr (195-2002) supported him with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Even 14 points and 9 rebounds by American power forward Urald King (198-1990, college: SE Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Gmunden Swans. The former international guard Daniel Friedrich (181-1992) added 14 points and 6 assists for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gmunden Swans' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Timberwolves (2-6) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Gmunden Swans lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Timberwolves will play against higher ranked UBC St. Poelten (#6) in St.Poelten in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gmunden Swans will play at home against Arkadia Lions and hope to get back on the winning track.
