Very expected game when 7th ranked Neptunas (4-6) lost to second ranked Lietkabelis (8-2) in Panevezys 73-80 on Saturday. American guard Jamel Morris (193-1992, college: Fairmont St.) notched 28 points to lead the effort and forward Vytenis Lipkevicius (195-1989) supported him with 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Even 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his seven free throws) by the former international guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-1989) did not help to save the game for Neptunas. The former international guard Zygimantas Janavicius (193-1989, agency: Interperformances) added 11 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Neptunas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lietkabelis have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record behind leader Zalgiris, which they share with Jonava. Loser Neptunas keeps the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Siauliai and Nevezis. Lietkabelis will meet at home Wolves (#5) in the next round. Neptunas will play against Siauliai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
