Regular Season Round 7: Phoenix Corona - Rm Valcea II 88-52

There was a change at the Liga I leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 7 took place in Brasov between two undefeated teams where Phoenix Corona crushed Rm Valcea II (5-1) 88-52 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Rm Valcea II. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Phoenix Corona. Rm Valcea II managed to win fourth quarter 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Phoenix Corona dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Rm Valcea II's 36. Phoenix Corona forced 25 Rm Valcea II turnovers and outrebounded them 46-32 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Sebastian Costeiu (186-1999) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. American point guard Armin Cane (188-1993, college: Stockton) helped adding 8 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Cane is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Phoenix Corona's coach Ionut Bascoveanu felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American Ajay Singh (199, college: Westmont, agency: Haylett Sports) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds and center Nicolae-Marian Ciuca (200-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Phoenix Corona (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Rm Valcea II at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Phoenix Corona. Rm Valcea II will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Phoenix Corona will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Cluj CSU in Cluj Napoca.
