The biggest surprise took place in Goettingen where host BG Goettingen (4-3) edged league's leader ALBA Berlin (6-1) 96-95 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of ALBA Berlin. 24 personal fouls committed by ALBA Berlin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American Mark Smith (193-1999, college: Kansas St.) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Norwegian point guard Harald Frey (188-1997, college: Montana St.) chipped in 24 points and 7 assists. The former international point guard Maodo Lo (191-1992, college: Columbia) produced 14 points and 6 assists and American-Croatian Jaleen Smith (190-1994, college: UNH) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. BG Goettingen moved-up to sixth place. Defending champion ALBA Berlin dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Bonn. They were replaced at the leadership position by Bayern. ALBA Berlin will play next round against Bayreuth trying to make it back to the top of the standings. BG Goettingen will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg on the road.
