Regular Season Round 11: Lusitania - Sangalhos 86-79

There was no surprise in Angra where bottom-ranked Sangalhos (0-11) were defeated by seventh ranked Lusitania (4-7) 86-79 on Wednesday. Lusitania made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Derek Jackson (187-1991, college: Kent St.) who scored 20 points and 8 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Ugandan-American Deng Geu (203-1997, college: N.Texas) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lusitania's coach Nuno Barroso used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Cape Verdean Anderson Correia (195-1997) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds and Angolan point guard Cleuzio Castro (180-1997) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lusitania maintains seventh place with 4-7 record, which they share with Vitoria SC. Sangalhos lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Lusitania will again meet bottom-ranked Sangalhos (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sangalhos will have a break next round.
