Regular Season Round 8: Mersin - Cankaya 77-75

Eighth-ranked Cankaya (3-5) was very close to win a game against first ranked Mersin (7-1). Mersin managed to secure only two-point victory 77-75. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cankaya. They outrebounded Cankaya 43-24 including 31 on the defensive glass. Mersin players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Bahamas-Bosnian center Jonquel Jones (198-1994, college: GWU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Tiffany Hayes (177-1989, college: UConn) who added 30 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. American point guard Tyasha Harris (178-1998, college: S.Carolina) responded with 28 points and 5 assists and her fellow American import center Queen Egbo (190-2000, college: Baylor) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Mersin have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Cankaya at the other side keeps the eighth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Mersin will play against Besiktas (#13) in Istanbul in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cankaya will play at home against the league's second-placed Fenerbahce (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
