Regular Season Round 9: Blackbirds - Piraten 77-87

Undefeated Blackbirds (7-1) recorded its first loss in Jennersdorf. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Worthersee Piraten (5-4) 87-77. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Blackbirds. It looked good early as Blackbirds took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Worthersee Piraten had a 25-15 second period charge getting the lead and Blackbirds were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-87. Worthersee Piraten made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Worthersee Piraten had a 35-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Worthersee Piraten especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. American forward Shawn Ray (194-1980, college: NCCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and guard Felix Leindecker (182-1999) chipped in 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Sebastian Koch (200-1988) with 23 points and 4 assists and guard Jakob Ernst (188-1998) scored 13 points. Blackbirds' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Worthersee Piraten. They moved-up to sixth place. Blackbirds at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. They share it with Mustangs. Worthersee Piraten will play against higher ranked Mustangs (#4) in Mistelbach in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blackbirds will play on the road against Lions in Dornbirn and hope to get back on the winning track.
