Regular Season Round 8: Cluj Napoca - Miercurea Ciuc 96-65
Date: December 3, 2022
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Miercurea Ciuc (2-5) was crushed on the road by top-ranked Cluj Napoca (7-0) 96-65 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cluj Napoca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Cluj Napoca forced 30 Miercurea Ciuc turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Miercurea Ciuc's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Brazilian Leonardo Meindl (201-1993) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 4 assists and the former international Nandor Kuti (196-1997) who added 11 points and 4 assists during the contest. The former international forward Amedeo Casale (194-1997, agency: BIG) responded with 13 points and 6 assists and Canadian Meshack Lufile (203-1992, college: Cape Breton) scored 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cluj Napoca have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-0 record. Loser Miercurea Ciuc dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Focsani and Targu Mures. Cluj Napoca will meet Targu Mures (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Miercurea Ciuc will play against Pitesti and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
