Regular Season Round 8: Sibiu - Ploiesti CSM 82-70

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th ranked Ploiesti CSM (5-3) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Sibiu (4-3) 82-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sibiu. Ploiesti CSM managed to win third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian point guard Gaston Whelan (187-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists and Spanish Daniel Manchon (193-1998, agency: Promo Sport ID) who added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Five Sibiu players scored in double figures. Sibiu's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian center Veljko Brkic (206-1995) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and international center Bogdan Popa (212-1997, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sibiu moved-up to second place, which they share with Dinamo B. and Galati. Loser Ploiesti CSM keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Sibiu will meet Targu Jiu (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ploiesti CSM will have a break next round.
