Regular Season Round 12: CAB Madeira - FC Porto 80-98

There was no surprise in Funchal where 11th ranked CAB Madeira (2-10) was defeated by second ranked FC Porto (11-1) 98-80 on Thursday. FC Porto dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to CAB Madeira's 28. They outrebounded CAB Madeira 51-33 including a 40-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Cape Verdean center Keven Gomes (208-1995) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and American forward Michael Finke (208-1996, college: GCU, agency: Players Group) who added 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Finke is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was forward Nuno Sa (200-1997) with 15 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Gabe McCray (201-1994, college: SC State) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four FC Porto and five CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FC Porto have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-1 record having just one point less than leader Benfica. CAB Madeira at the other side keeps the eleventh place with ten games lost. FC Porto will meet at home bottom-ranked Sangalhos (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB Madeira will play against Ovarense and hope to secure a win.
