Rather predictable result when third ranked Gunners Oberwart (8-3) defeated at home 5th ranked UBSC Graz (6-5) 81-74 on Sunday. UBSC Graz was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 19-11 charge of Gunners Oberwart, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Gunners Oberwart outrebounded UBSC Graz 38-25 including a 31-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Rob Howard (203-1997, college: UIC, agency: One Motive Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Guard DJ Hanes (185-1995, college: Nebraska Chr., agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in 22 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Gunners Oberwart's coach Horst Leitner used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Zach Cooks (175, college: Hofstra) produced 28 points and 5 steals and forward Tanner Giddings (208-1994, college: Chico St.) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gunners Oberwart moved-up to second place, which they share with Wels and Gmunden. UBSC Graz lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with St.Poelten. Gunners Oberwart will meet bottom-ranked Nord Dragonz (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UBSC Graz will play against Timberwolves (#8) and hope to secure a win.
