There was a small surprise in Trier where fourteenth ranked Gladiators (5-7) smashed 11th ranked Kirchheim Knights (5-7) 83-63 on Saturday. Gladiators had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Travis Daniels (203-1992, college: MSU) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Marco Hollersbacher (202-2000) chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Tyrone Nash (203-1988, college: Notre Dame) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Richard Williams Jr (178-1987, college: SDSU) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Four Kirchheim Knights players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladiators have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Kirchheim Knights. Gladiators will meet Duesseldorf (#15) on the road in the next round. Kirchheim Knights will play against Lions (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
