Regular Season Round 11: Sibiu - Miercurea Ciuc 98-75

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Miercurea Ciuc (2-8) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Sibiu (6-4) 98-75 on Saturday. The game without a history. Sibiu led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Sibiu looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Miercurea Ciuc's players. It was a great evening for Argentinian point guard Gaston Whelan (187-1994) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists. Latvian Roberts Blumbergs (208-1998, college: GCU) helped adding 18 points and 9 rebounds. Serbian Nemanja Manojlovic (197-1993) responded with 31 points and 5 rebounds and Canadian Meshack Lufile (203-1992, college: Cape Breton) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sibiu moved-up to third place, which they share with Craiova and Galati. Miercurea Ciuc lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Focsani. Sibiu will meet Targu Mures (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Miercurea Ciuc will play against Ploiesti CSM and hope to secure a win.
