The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Benfica (12-2) in Lisbon on Friday night. Hosts were edged by FC Porto (12-1) 87-86. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Benfica outrebounded FC Porto 37-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Naturalized Cape Verdean Ivan Almeida (198-1989, college: Stonehill) responded with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Tunisian Makram Ben Romdhane (205-1989) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. FC Porto have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Benfica dropped to the second place with two games lost. FC Porto are looking forward to face Imortal (#6) in Albufeira in the next round where they are favorite. Benfica will play on the road against CAB Madeira (#11) in Funchal and is hoping to win this game.
