There was an upset when higher ranked UBSC Graz (7-6) was smashed by eleventh ranked Arkadia Lions (4-9) in Traiskirchen 87-65 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-65. Arkadia Lions outrebounded UBSC Graz 38-26 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American players dominated also this game. Forward Davon Clare (198-1998, college: CS Fullerton) nailed 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and guard Evan Taylor (196-1996, college: Nebraska) accounted for 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Tanner Giddings (208-1994, college: Chico St.) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and forward Bobby Hawkinson (208, college: New York U.) added 11 points and 13 rebounds respectively for UBSC Graz in the defeat. Five Arkadia Lions and four UBSC Graz players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arkadia Lions moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Kapfenberg. Loser UBSC Graz keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Klosterneuburg. Arkadia Lions will meet at home bottom-ranked Furstenfeld Panthers (#12) in the next round. UBSC Graz will play against Kapfenberg Bulls (#8) and hope to secure a win.
