There was no surprise in Funchal where 11th ranked CAB Madeira (3-12) was crushed by second ranked Benfica (13-2) 107-78. Benfica shot 63.6 percent from the field. It was a good game for American center Terrell Carter II (208-1996, college: Fresno St., agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Naturalized Cape Verdean Ivan Almeida (198-1989, college: Stonehill) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Nuno Sa (200-1997) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Jett Speelman (201-1994, college: Denison) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for CAB Madeira. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second place with 13-2 record having just one point less than leader FC Porto. CAB Madeira at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Benfica will play against bottom-ranked Sangalhos (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CAB Madeira will play against Imortal in Albufeira and hopes to get back on the winning track.
