The game in Balikesir was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Izmit (11-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Edremit (8-7). Izmit managed to secure a 5-point victory 75-70 on Friday. Izmit looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by forward Deniz Aygul (186-1995) who scored that evening 14 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Kym Royster (188-1997, college: Indiana) supported her with 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Royster is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Izmit players scored in double figures. Izmit's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 41 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field) by American center Zakyia Weathersby (188-1998, college: UAB) did not help to save the game for Edremit. Arifecan Vardar (181-2003) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Izmit have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Edremit keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Izmit will meet at home Emlak 2 (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Edremit will play against the league's second-placed Fenerbahce G. (#2) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
