Regular Season Round 17: Artland - Leverkusen 64-83

Bottom-ranked Leverkusen managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of nine consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they outleveled sixth-ranked Artland Dragons in Quakenbrueck 83-64. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 19-point difference suggests that Leverkusen is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Artland Dragons. Leverkusen dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Artland Dragons' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Bosnian center Dejan Kovacevic (210-1996, agency: LUMANI 10.7) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Naturalized Brazilian Gabriel De Oliveira (206-1998) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Leverkusen players scored in double figures. Leverkusen's coach Hans-Juergen Gnad used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward DeVondre Perry (196-1999, college: Albany) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard William Christmas (196-1996, college: CPP) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Artland Dragons. Leverkusen maintains eighteenth place with 3-14 record. Artland Dragons at the other side keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Leverkusen are looking forward to face higher ranked Duesseldorf (#15) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Artland Dragons will play against Lions (#10) in Karlsruhe and are hoping to win this game.
