Regular Season Round 15: Heidelberg - Bayreuth 107-101

Everything went according to plan when fifteenth ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (5-10) defeated at home 17th ranked Bayreuth (3-11) 107-101 on Sunday. MLP Academics Heidelberg dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Bayreuth's 30 and made 26-of-28 free shots (92.9 percent) during the game. MLP Academics Heidelberg forced 22 Bayreuth turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Belgian forward Vincent Kesteloot (197-1995) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. American point guard Eric Washington (183-1993, college: Miami, OH) accounted for 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. American point guard Brandon Childress (183-1997, college: Wake Forest) came up with 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Lithuanian Ignas Sargiunas (194-1999, college: Colorado St.) added 24 points and 6 assists respectively for Bayreuth in the defeat. Bayreuth's coach Lars Masell rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. MLP Academics Heidelberg maintains fifteenth place with 5-10 record. Bayreuth lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with 11 games lost. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet higher ranked BG Goettingen (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bayreuth will play against Seawolves (#14) and hope to secure a win.
