Regular Season Round 16: Timisoara - Steaua B. 88-84

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Timisoara as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Timisoara defeated 6th ranked Steaua B. at home 88-84. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Steaua B. won third quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Timisoara won last quarter 26-24. Steaua B. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Serbian center Igor Kesar (210-1992, agency: Mansfield and Associates) who scored that evening 25 points and 9 rebounds and Serbian-Bosnian point guard Nikola Gajic (195-1991, college: SF Austin) supported him with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Timisoara players scored in double figures. Timisoara's coach Dragan Petricevic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 23 points and 9 assists by Serbian point guard Strahinja Jovanovic (185-1996) did not help to save the game for Steaua B.. The former international forward Titus Nicoara (203-1988, agency: Interperformances) added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Steaua B. at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Steaua B. will play next round against strong Dinamo B. trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti - Dinamo B.. Timisoara will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Constanta on the road.
