Date: January 21, 2023
The game between Top Four teams took place in Bonn. Second ranked host Telekom Baskets (13-2) smashed 4th ranked EWE Baskets (10-6) 108-79. Telekom Baskets shot 62.9 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three nailing 18 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Telekom Baskets players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The winners were led by American-North Macedonian point guard TJ Shorts (175-1997, college: UC Davis) who scored that evening 30 points and 7 assists (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) and naturalized Chilean Sebastian Herrera (193-1997, agency: LUMANI 10.7) supported him with 12 points and 5 assists. Telekom Baskets' coach Tuomas Iisalo felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 17 points and 6 rebounds by American Macio Teague (193-1997, college: Baylor) did not help to save the game for EWE Baskets. His fellow American import point guard DeWayne Russell (180-1994, college: GCU) added 13 points and 7 assists for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Telekom Baskets maintains second position with 13-2 record behind leader ALBA. EWE Baskets at the other side keep the fourth place with six games lost. Telekom Baskets will play against bottom-ranked Bayreuth (#18) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. EWE Baskets will play against EnBW Ludwigsburg (#7) and hope to get back on the winning track.
