Regular Season Round 17: Constanta - Timisoara 82-67

Round in Liga Nationala means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Constanta where host Constanta (8-6) beat league's leader Timisoara (9-6) 82-67 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Constanta. Timisoara managed to win third quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Timisoara to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Timisoara 38-22 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Nate Johnson (193-1998, college: Xavier) who scored 30 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Lithuanian center Egidijus Mockevicius (208-1992, college: Evansville) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. North Macedonian swingman Adem Mekic (197-1995, agency: 011 Sports) produced 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and Serbian-Bosnian point guard Nikola Gajic (195-1991, college: SF Austin) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Four Timisoara players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Constanta moved-up to third place. Timisoara at the other side still keeps top position with six games lost. They share it with Galati. They were replaced at the leadership position by Galati. Timisoara will play next round against league's leader Galati trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Constanta will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Dinamo B. in Bucuresti.
