Regular Season Round 11: Vienna United - DBB LZ OOE 58-55

The most exciting game of round 11 in the BDSL took place in Vienna. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked DBB LZ OOE (4-6) to eighth ranked Vienna United (1-9) 58-55 on Sunday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-6. But DBB LZ OOE won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vienna United dominated on the defensive end, holding DBB LZ OOE to just 6 points in first quarter. They also forced 20 DBB LZ OOE turnovers. The best player for the winners was Ukrainian guard Ninel Merkotun (-2004) who scored 20 points. Center Antonia Reissner (189-1999) chipped in 5 points and 12 rebounds. Vienna United's coach Vedran Schuch used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Lara Mendl (170-2003) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and guard Lisa Ganhor (167-2001) added 11 points respectively for the guests. Vienna United left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with KOS. DBB LZ OOE at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Timberwolves. Vienna United is looking forward to face KOS (#7) in Celovec in the next round. DBB LZ OOE will play at home against Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
