Regular Season Round 16: Chernomorets - Balkan 93-83

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Balkan (11-4) against seventh ranked Chernomorets (7-9) on Monday night. Visiting Balkan was defeated by Chernomorets in Burgas 93-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Balkan. Chernomorets dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Balkan's 26. Chernomorets forced 25 Balkan turnovers. The winners were led by Canadian point guard Munis Tutu (184-1996, college: Carleton) who scored that evening 25 points and 9 assists and South Sudanese power forward Makol Mawien (206-1996, college: Kansas St.) supported him with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Five Chernomorets players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 6 assists by the former international Pavlin Ivanov (195-1993, agency: Octagon Europe) did not help to save the game for Balkan. The former international Nikolay Grozev (200-1994) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chernomorets moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Beroe. Defending champion Balkan keeps the second position with four games lost. Chernomorets will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Balkan will play against Yambol and hope to secure a win.
