Regular Season Round 14: Piraten - Towers 98-59
Date: January 28, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Towers (4-11) were outscored by sixth ranked Worthersee Piraten (8-7) in Klagenfurt 98-59 on Saturday. The game without a history. Worthersee Piraten led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Towers' 34. Worthersee Piraten forced 19 Towers turnovers and outrebounded them 40-25 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Worthersee Piraten especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Towers' players. American forward Shawn Ray (194-1980, college: NCCU) notched 27 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Marin Sliskovic (200-1995) supported him with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Five Worthersee Piraten players scored in double figures. Even 35 points (!!!) by Slovenian guard Luka Bozak (185-2000) did not help to save the game for Towers. Lithuanian guard Kasparas Berenis (193-1999) added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Worthersee Piraten went down to eighth position due to points difference. Towers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Flames. Worthersee Piraten will meet league's second-placed Raiders Tirol in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Towers will play against United (#5) and hope to secure a win.
