Regular Season Round 17: Merkezefendi - Darussafaka 97-94

The most exciting game of round 17 in the BSL took place in Denizl. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Dacka (8-9) to eighth ranked Merkezefendi (8-9) 97-94 in the game for the sixth place. Merkezefendi dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Dacka's 26. 28 personal fouls committed by Dacka helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Trinidad and Tobago center Johnny Hamilton (213-1994, college: UT Arlington) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and the former international power forward Ayberk Olmaz (210-1996) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. Four Merkezefendi players scored in double figures. American point guard Markel Starks (187-1991, college: Georgetown, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 27 points and 6 assists and the former international point guard Dogus Ozdemiroglu (191-1996) scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Dacka's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Merkezefendi moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Darussafaka and Bahcesehir. Merkezefendi is looking forward to face higher ranked Bursaspor (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dacka's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Efes.
