There was a surprise result when seventeenth ranked Braunschweig (5-13) won against at home higher ranked Chemnitz (9-6) 78-71 on Sunday. American point guard Braydon Hobbs (196-1989, college: Bellarmine) stepped up and scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international David Kramer (198-1997, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 18 points. American point guard Wes Clark (184-1994, college: Buffalo) responded with 16 points and point guard Nelson Weidemann (190-1999) scored 15 points. Five Chemnitz players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Braunschweig. They maintain seventeenth place with 5-13 record. Loser Chemnitz keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Goettingen. Braunschweig will meet higher ranked Brose Bamberg (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chemnitz will play against s Oliver Baskets (#8) in Wuerzburg and hope to secure a win.
