Regular Season Round 16: Merkezefendi - Bursaspor 96-65

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Bursaspor (8-8) was outscored by seventh ranked Merkezefendi (7-9) in Denizl 96-65 on Monday. Merkezefendi forced 19 Bursaspor turnovers and outrebounded them 50-35 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Merkezefendi looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Bursaspor's players. The winners were led by forward Atahan Altiok (198-2004) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and Batu Yilmaz (-2005) supported him with 25 points and 5 assists. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by forward Mehmet Atalan (198-2003) did not help to save the game for Bursaspor. Point guard Berk Akin (188-2005) added 14 points and 5 assists for lost side. Five Merkezefendi and four Bursaspor players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Merkezefendi moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Turk Telekom and TED Ankara. Bursaspor lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Merkezefendi will meet Petkim Spor (#9) in the next round. Bursaspor will play against Tesvikiye (#8) and hope to secure a win.
