Very expected game when 12th ranked Kocaeli (6-12) was crushed on the road by third ranked Samsunspor (14-4) 88-52 on Friday. Samsunspor dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kocaeli's 34. They outrebounded Kocaeli 39-24 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Samsunspor looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Kocaeli's players. The best player for the winners was forward Mustafa Erdogan (202-1993) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Forward Mert Sert (198-1996, college: UMass Dartmouth) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Samsunspor players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Nick Banyard (203-1994, college: UCF, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Desure Buie (185-1997, college: Hofstra) added 15 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Samsunspor maintains third position with 14-4 record having just two points less than leader Mersin. Kocaeli lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 12 games lost. Samsunspor will meet Bornova (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Kocaeli will play against Balikesir and hope to secure a win.
